The Right Kind of Black Girl

TRKBG is Black founded female-led grassroots not-for-profit organization advocating for the betterment of Black people through the acquisition of generational wealth, reduction of health disparities, defiance of stereotypes, and rebellion against the trauma of racism. 

Our Story

The Issue:  We're Fighting for Our Survival

Nearly every social indicator of well-being from income and earnings to obesity and food security, Black women and girls rank low or last. The numbers below spotlight the inequalities and resulting injustices Black women face on a daily basis as they work to obtain full economic security and to create a better life and future for their families.

​Economic Security

Black Women in the U.S. are
typically paid 61 cents for every

Black girls, women, and non-binary people are hyper-vulnerable to  abuse.

1 in 10 Black people experience racial trauma.

Black-women owned businesses increased by 164%, however, Black-women led startups have only received .0006% of the total tech venture capital funding raised.

Fitness & Nutrition

The death rate for Blacks is
generally higher than whites for
heart diseases, stroke, and cancer.

“Getting involved with The Right Kind of Black Girl has been one of the best professional decisions I have ever made. I have had the privilege to work alongside like-minded Black women to design programs that positively impact the lives of other Black women and men in this country. Prior to joining, I had not really seen myself as entrepreneurial. Although this is something that my mother told me before, it is not something I have seen done in my family or my community. TRKBG has exposed me to ideas and given me the confidence and encouragement to pursue my own entrepreneurial adventures on my quest to financial freedom. I come from a community where we are expected to get a good job and work for someone else until we retire. It has been such a mindset shift to consider working for myself and making wealth and opportunity available to my family and friends through my own efforts.”

“When I joined TRKBG, I just wanted to find friends that looked like me and experienced life through the same lens. And even then, I was still worried about fitting in or whether I would be “Black” enough—as if that were a thing. I hoped to find a friend. Literally, I would have been happy with just one new friend. After just a few months, I saw a difference in the way I walked and the way I talked. I was more motivated to take on challenges and push myself to achieve goals in areas I did not previously know about. In my search for friends, I gained a sisterhood and confidence. I even developed my leadership skills. I have been encouraged to grow and expand my knowledge base and business capacity within and outside of the TRKBG. Without this organization, I would still be afraid to step outside of my box and meet new people and accept myself fully for who I am.”

“Moving to California was already a big risk for me but once I got here I struggled with making friends or just meeting genuine people. However, since joining the TRKBG I have a support system and I have also met some incredible professional women. Many of the women in the group are just like me and we all have something in common.
